During a college summer break I took a job selling photocopiers. I was completely new to sales, and the office I walked into was alpha male dominated: all banter, all confidence, archetypal salesmen. To be fair, they were excellent in the room, charming, great at high-level conversations. But the one thing none of them wanted to do was drum up leads. So that’s where I went. I got on the phones, ringing businesses to find out who might want a photocopier, and I stayed on the phones. By the end I had broken the office record: something like two thousand leads in a month.
